Pakistan’s biggest thrift store vandalised, looted on inauguration day: ‘Banana republic’
The grand opening of what is claimed to be Pakistan’s biggest thrift store turned chaotic in Karachi after a massive crowd broke into the building, vandalised, and looted the shop. Several videos of the incident, capturing the crowd forcefully entering the premises, surfaced on social media.
According to ARY News, a Pakistani news channel, it was the country’s first mega thrift store, promising low prices on clothing, home essentials, and accessories. However, the situation went out of hand when over a thousand people appeared at the mall, and management failed to control the situation.
In one of the viral videos, a sea of people can be seen waiting for the staircase leading to the store. Men, women, and children broke into the store in the blink of an eye, leading to the mayhem. Another video shows a man giving a glimpse of the destruction. “We promised the best deals. Look what they have done to ‘Dream Bazaar’,” he says in the video.
